A discussion and dialogue with Alive and Well Ambassadors and community members on racial equity, justice, and the child welfare systems.
About this Event
Taking place the second Tuesday of every monthly, Community Coffee is a discussion and connecting opportunity with Alive and Well Ambassadors and community residents. Our goal is to dialogue on issues that matter.
Child welfare systems are intended to protect children by investigating abuse and neglect, identifying permanency for children, and strengthening families. However, racial disparities and discrimination, especially against Black and indigenous families, within child welfare systems is an oft-overlooked source of trauma and injustice.
We invite participants to read this story about Samantha Mungai, a Kenyan-American mother in Kansas City who recently had her parental rights unjustly terminated, as well as this article.
Participants are welcome to stay until 9:45 to learn more about Alive and Well Communities and how you can join our Ambassador program!
